Understanding top notes, middle notes and base notes
- Top, middle and base notes refer to how quickly an aroma dissipates.
- Top notes are also referred to as headnotes and are the first impression that you get from a candle. They are the first aromas you smell when you take the lid off a candle. These top note aromas will only last between 5-15mins.
- Middle notes, also known as heart notes, make their presence known as the top notes fade away. These full-bodied notes make up the heart of the fragrance and determine the more dominant aroma lasting around 20-60mins.
- Base notes linger the longest due to their heavy molecular structure. Base notes are the underlying aroma of a fragrance blend that can last up to about 6hrs.
